Relaxology - The Ancient Art of Relaxing

(And oh, boy, do we need it in modern day living!)

Relaxology is a name penned (invented) by Ray back in 1998, to describe the purpose and results of his complementary therapies. Others have also started to use it, including George clothes in Asda!

A Rest a Day, Helps you Work & Play!

Stress is Good For You!

Stress gets us up and running, and helps to keep us going when things get tough. It helps one to achieve targets in work, sport, and life goals. When faced with a Stressful situation, the body responds by increasing production of certain hormones such as adrenaline, enabling us to Fight or Flight. These hormones lead to changes in heart rate, blood pressure, metabolism and physical activity designed to improve overall performance. We become temporarily stronger and our powers of concentration improve, allowing us to sometimes do quite amazing feats of strength and endurance.

Stress can be caused by any interference that disturbs a person's healthy mental, emotional and physical wellbeing. A person may experience Stress in response to a wide range of physical and emotional stimuli, including physical and mental violence, internal conflicts, pressure of work, and significant life changing events (e.g. the death of a loved one or the breaking up of a marriage.) Some people are more susceptible than others to Stress Related Illness. Work Related Stress Illness is now a major problem in many areas of employment, ranging from office jobs, social and care workers, teachers etc, to dangerous work such as the armed forces, police and fire brigade.

However...

At a certain level, they disrupt an individual's ability to cope. It is reported that less than 20% of people are effective in the face of a crisis such as fires or floods. Continued exposure to Stress often leads to mental and physical symptoms, such as anxiety and depression, indigestion, stomach ulcers, palpitations and muscular aches and pains.

Post-traumatic Stress Disorder is a direct response to a specific stressful event.
Going to a gym is becoming more popular as a way to keep fit. Remember however, that if you are under Stress, then you are burning up even more energy than you should, and that your adrenal glands are already working flat out! Pumping iron may not be doing you as much good as you think, unless you take a PROPER, REGULAR REST!

A Rest a Day Helps You Work & Play

After using up all your energy, YOU MUST REST & REVITALISE YOUR SELF.

There are several ways in which you can do this. On a regular a basis, you should de-stress yourself by having Complementary Healing Therapies.

There are many to choose from and I will describe the most common ones.

We can Relieve Your Stress with:

Reiki - Aromatherapy - Massage - Reflexology

Reiki -

For energizing, relaxing and repairing

“Reiki” means universally guided, life force energy. The recipient’s inner-self, soul, spirit, call it what you like, draws the energy known as Chi in China and Ki in Japan, through a Reiki Therapist who acts as a channel. It is this life force energy that we use to reproduce healthy new cells, bringing about the repair of our body and mind. Put quite simply, Reiki is a unique way of transferring magnified and focused, healing energy through one person (a Reiki), to another (the recipient)

That’s all there is to it, but without this Life Force Energy – We are Lifeless!

Unwell and overstressed people are very low in this energy. Reiki treatments replenish the levels of energy needed to repair one’s body and mind.

A Reiki session and what it's like.

Reiki treatments are normally given lying on a comfortable treatment couch, accompanied with soft music, sweet smells, burning candles and a relaxing atmosphere. Reiki energy is usually given through the palms of hands being placed on or just above the body, and the therapist will usually work from the head to feet, covering most of the body (not the private bits of course!)

Most people will experience a feeling of comforting heat and total relaxation coming from the therapist's hands. This is energy, vibrations and healing life force passing through the Reiki into the recipient, who's inner-self will guide the chi energy to where it's most needed. Reiki goes to the cause of dis-ease, rather than just to treat the symptoms.

An “holistic” treatment means treating the whole self.

A Reiki session is the most relaxing time you will ever experience,
your inner-self will switch off your busy, busy, thinking mind,
in order to help you to absorb all the benefits of Reiki.

Aromatherapy Massage -

for all those aches and pains.

Many people think of an Aromatherapy Massage as a massage with “nice” smells. Whilst that’s partly true, the massage is really the means of transporting essential oils into one’s bloodstream. It is the essential oils that stimulate the body’s self healing process.

Massage has the effect of relaxing tired and strained muscles and starts to drain away toxins and other waste products trapped when circulation is poor, or when one’s lifestyle is lethargic. It has the effect of stimulating the immune system and encourages the formation of white blood cells.
My Aromatherapy treatments can be a light but firm touch, or can be heavier and deeper using Tui-na based massage (Chinese acupressure) to smooth away muscle aches and pains, injuries, ladies problems, and even emotional aches and pains!

For those that exercise, it is a wonderful way to keep on feeling GREAT

An Aromatherapy treatment and what it’s like.

Aromatherapy treatments are given in a warm, comfortable room with soft music playing and candles burning. The client is covered with warm towels and a body wrap, except for the area being worked on and the client may choose to have a full body or part body massage. Essential oils are selected according to the needs of the person being treated and continue working for several days.

A Truly Relaxing & Beneficial Experience.

Reflexology -

for those tired, aching feet and much more.

Originally known as Reflex Zone Therapy, Reflexology is a holistic healing method, which involves pressure and massage of the reflex points found on the feet and hands. Reflexology teaches that a vital energy, or life force circulates between the organs of the body, permeating every living cell and tissue. If this energy becomes blocked, the part of the body relating to the blockage is affected. Energy blocks in the human body are reflected on the hands and feet in one or more zones located there.

By using specific pressure techniques, they can be detected as “gritty” areas. These occur in the part of the foot or hand that relates to the part of the body that is imbalanced. The Reflexology techniques of pressure and massage are designed to break down and dissipate the “gritty” blockages. Through stimulation of the circulatory and lymphatic systems, and by encouraging the release of toxins, Reflexology promotes the body to heal itself.

Apart from treating disease, Reflexology is an extremely effective therapy in cases of stress, tension and tiredness. It can also be used as a preventive measure against ill health.

A Reflexology session and what it’s like.

A Reflexology treatment is given in a warm room with the client either sitting with their feet on a stool, or lying on a couch, with soft music playing and essential oils burning to create a relaxing and calming environment. The treatment begins with a relaxing massage and a cleaning of the feet, after which the therapist will begin working on the reflex points in the feet and ankles. This is achieved by pressing and/or massaging. The treatment ends with a comforting energy transfer from hands to feet.

It is both Invigorating and Relaxing.
